The Weight You're Carrying

You've spent years learning how to compartmentalize. In the hallways, in the ER, in the back of an ambulance, you do what has to be done. You move fast, you stay calm, and you carry it home.

But there's a specific tension that comes with being a healthcare professional navigating your own personal life, something most counsellors don't fully understand. You're trained to identify distress in others. You know the clinical names for what you're feeling. And somehow, that makes it harder, not easier, to ask for help.

Being in the trenches and navigating your personal life at the same time is genuinely difficult. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. You just have to be human.

Counselling That Meets You Where You Are

Counselling for healthcare workers is therapy with someone who understands both sides of the room. Not just the clinical language, but the culture: the shift handoffs, the secondary trauma, the strange loneliness of being surrounded by people all day and still feeling unseen.

This work is about creating a space where you don't have to show up as the professional. You can come as the person. There's no right or wrong to what comes up.

Paige's Approach

Paige Mathison, RCC,holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and spent over a decade working as a psychiatric nurse before training as a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She knows what it's like to be on both sides of that relationship.

Her approach draws on Somatic Experiencing to work with what the body is still holding, alongside strength-based and trauma-informed methods. The goal isn't to make sense of everything cognitively. It's to help you notice what's present, at whatever pace feels right.

Paige works with:

  • Nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals
  • Healthcare workers navigating burnout, compassion fatigue, or secondary trauma
  • Paramedics and first responders

Another Chapter Counselling is 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming and offers sessions in Kelowna and virtually across BC.

Common Questions

No. A lot of the people Paige works with come in before things get to a crisis point. If you're noticing that work is following you home, that your patience is thinner than it used to be, or that you feel flattened by what you're carrying, those are all good enough reasons to reach out.

Paige spent over ten years as a psychiatric nurse. She doesn't need to be briefed on shift culture, on what it feels like to compartmentalize during a difficult call, or on the strange professional pressure to have it all together. That context is already there.

That's a really common experience for healthcare workers. A lot of therapy models were designed with the general public in mind. Paige's approach is grounded in somatic and trauma-informed work that tends to land differently for people whose nervous systems have been running on high for years.

Yes. Paige offers in-person sessions in Kelowna and virtual sessions for anyone across BC.

RCC sessions are eligible for coverage under many extended health benefit plans. Paige provides official receipts for direct reimbursement. Check with your provider to confirm your coverage.
